Westbound + Wandering | Night Eight: Misty Goodbyes, Meat Pies & A Harbour Sunset

The morning brought a cool fog—almost a mist—that clung to the mountains. I loved it. The cold breeze felt like a gentle nudge to wake up slowly.

Our group gathered for one last breakfast together at Crêpe Montagne. I went for their Countryside sandwich—solid choice. The tea, though… still weird. I was already looking forward to getting back to my own stash in the van.

Back at our rolling home, James and I packed up, then swung by the condo to pick up Tollman and Scott. From there, we headed just northwest of the park to an off-park trail called Out There.

The drive in? Anxiety-inducing. It didn’t feel like a public road, but apparently, James had no such concerns. He coaxed the van up terrain I didn’t think it could handle—road-track warrior mode activated. When we finally reached the trailhead, the boys wasted no time jumping on their bikes and pedaling straight up the hill. I, on the other hand, took my sweet time driving back down the mountain to find a safe, flat spot to park. My reward? A freezing cold van shower that was strangely refreshing.

When the guys rolled back in, the mood was… less than thrilled. Turns out Out There wasn’t exactly a dream ride—too many sharp turns, choppy lines, and technical sections that killed momentum through the jumps. Not the flowy fun they’d hoped for.

Before leaving Whistler, we made one more essential stop—Peaked Pies—for a pre-departure meal at the park with the crew. First time trying one, and for sure not my last. It’s an Aussie thing, and I went full send—topping mine with mashed potatoes, smashed peas, and gravy. Hella yum. I thought I’d only eat half… but crushed the whole thing without regret.

After stuffing our faces, we circled up for our goodbyes—see you next year for Tollman, and farewell until Ontario for the rest of the crew.

On the drive toward Squamish, we stumbled upon a little roadside fruit market. I demolished a pint of local raspberries before we’d even hit the highway again and grabbed a bag of fresh Okanagan peaches for the road. Bonus surprise—the market was set up in a Canadian Tire parking lot… which had a free sani-dump and water refill station. Hard to find online, but it’s there! https://rvdumpsites.net/#!44175&query=sitedetails

From there, we rolled into Squamish and parked at a development site right along the water. We skipped the Lager House this time and instead made our own little date night in the van—martinis, wine, and a lovely dehydrated meal of homemade tomato sauce with fresh sourdough bread. Sea lions popped their heads up in the channel while, in the distance, giant tree trunks were dropped into the water and wrangled by a tiny-but-mighty tugboat.

We watched the sun melt behind the mountains, the sky turning shades of pink and gold, before tucking in for the night. The wind spilled down from the peaks, wrapping us in the kind of peace that only a place like this can give.

Tomorrow—we explore. And we have a date planned at The Lager House - excited to try their food!
